Parking for Colne at Fordham

Postby Mixed Bag » Sat Mar 11, 2006 8:01 am

To fish the Colne at Fordham, is parking on the pub car park by the bridge :?:
Catching is great, but so is just being there!

Are you telling me that the pub is no longer there! It's been a long time since I have been that way.
If that is the case I presume that there is a lay-by to park in.
The question still stands.
Where do you park?

I don't think there has ever been a pub has there? One end of the stretch is down a private road, and the other end is in the middle of nowhere.

As for parking, I'm not too sure, but check the map in the Rulebook.

Perhaps I have a different stretch of the river in mind.
I will check the map in the rule book though, that is when i receive it, having only joined the club a few days ago via Snags so I reckon it will take a few days to get to me.
Thanks.

You should have got a rule book when you joined, if not go back and get one from the shop.

Now i'm confused.
Looking on the map supplied with the info for Colne Fordham It looks to me as if fishing starts at the road bridge for the main road leading to Fordham from Eight ash green.
I can see that the other end leads to nowhere.
It's by this bridge that I thought the pub is, or was.
Unfortunately the map does not give a name or number for the road.

Is the pub you are thinking of called 'The Shoulder of Mutton' if so, on the C.A.P.S. map this is located where the road crosses the river just north(about 1cm) of Fordstreet, on the Halstead Road.

Could well be the Shoulder of Mutton, parking is shown just off the road by the bridge over the river Colne.
I best take a drive there tomorrow and check it out.
P.S I appreciate your trying to help.
Cheers.

Parking for the Colne at fordham is in a layby right next to the bridge on the main Fordham road.

I've been trying to find out how to gain access to the other end. There is parking in Cooks mill lane according to the rule book, but when I've been down there I can't find which way you have to go to get to the river. There are fences everywhere which would have to be climbed in order to reach the river, and lots of PRIVATE signs. There is a puiblic footpath that runs around a big house and links up with the Essex way, but that takes you to the wrong bank of the Colne, which again is littered with barbed wire fences.

If anyone could tell me how to get to the Colne from Cooks mill lane, I'd be very grateful.

Thats very much appreciated! The reply message saying that it started down the bottom of a private road and the other end being in the middle of nowhere threw me.
You can understand why some river stretches are not fished if finding the access to some locations is so difficult.

If you drive down Cooks Mill lane, as you get to the bottom of the hill, there is (or was) a house on the left hand side. I haven't been there this year but I believe that the original house may be being replaced.

However, just before the property is a gate into a field. This entrance is owned by the landowner of our fishing, and, despite what the householder may say, you can park there.

Having entered the field, you skirt the field boundary until you can cross a fence into the bankside field with the sign indicating the downstream limit of fishing.

Top man. This is the type of information that should be included to all members when joining the club or as new venues become available. It would make life so much easier.
I wonder how many people have moved their vehicles because they have been told to do so by the householder, and the C.A.P.S. member thinking that they have made a mistake by parking there. and decided to fish elsewhere.
Cheers for that.
