What's your opinion on eating course fish?

Postby steviecops » Wed Apr 12, 2006 9:11 am

I don't know whether this is the right section to post this question on or not, so sorry if it's in the wrong place.

I have been reading a very long thread on another angling forum about taking and eating course fish. I must admit I'm shocked at the amount of people who think it's still alright to do so in this day and age. Personally I don't think it's necessary and should be stopped, but am I really in the minority? What do others think?

The thread is here, http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=61503 You might have to register on the forum to be able to view it.

Although I wouldn't want to see carp on the wet fish slab in Tescos  I don't really have a problem with it. Deep fried roach in batter, lovely :yumyum:

Saying that, could you imagine what a snotty bream tastes like? Not for me thanks. :D

I had a very nice grilled perch once, but most fish have too many small bones to make comfortable eating.

Where I fish in Holland the Owners of the water catch Zander, Pike, Eel and sell them to the local restaurants. The lake owners also make a kind of stew from the Rudd and Roach.

I once tried baked pike but cannot recommend it.

In Germany and Poland they eat Goose or Carp as their Xmas dinner - But at the just moment Bird dishes are just not popular.

Last week in Germany, I was told that even the chinese waiters were joking that the Chicken was really Cat - as bird flu is causing customers to avoid poultry.

Pike fish-cakes are actually a classic French dish called "Quennelles de brochet".

I didn't realize that Sudbury had a reputation for haute cuisine.

at see woos wholesalers in Charlton they have a big tank full of carp and turbot swimming about until someone buys them. they are put in bags like goldfish even though they are up to 10lbs.

mind you i would not eat fish anyway as they come out of water and you know what fish and fishermen do in that. i am suprized that anyone can eat anything after seeing dave's aviator.
