It is possible for unscrupulous creatures to get hold of you email address and put you on the mailing lists.
To them getting hold of your address from the Memberlist edit your profile to hide your email address and use the private messaging system, its not as quick or direct but it will keep it from the prying eyes of the wrong people.

Many of you still have your email address openly vissible leaving you vunerable to etc.

To protect yourself open your "Profile" and in the "Preferences" section set the "Always show my e-mail address:" box to "No", then click "Submit" at the bottom of the page.
