Postby The Laird » Tue Mar 30, 2010 1:01 pm

A statement from the committee

Unhooking Mats
30/03/10
After question raised by some members and enquiries made by several committee members,
the clubs required dimensions for unhooking mats to be used on CAPS waters have been revised.

The old dimensions were
100cm x 70cm x 5cm

The new dimensions are
100cm x 70cm x 2.5cm

garcia, the decision has little to do with democracy but a lot to do with common sense. Have you ever tried buying a mat that has a thickness of 5cm at the centre, they are just not readily available, and if you do find one they cost a fortune. A mat with a thickness of 2.5cm at the centre seems to be the industry standard (Nash, JRC, Aqua, Wychwood, Chub etc) and is a good quality mat and "fit for purpose."

The committee just bowed to pressure from the members, so in a way it could be called democracy.
CAPS Committee in "play it by the rules" shocker.

I understand perfectly,

CARP ZONE they have one. £45.00.
not a mat but a cradle. i agreed the price is not great but ....

I do not mind to spend the money and have a new mat, I sure that the carp will appreciate it. The old CHUB now can go to my daughter. in a way tks for the saving as well.

You might not mind Andy, but I do.
Theres censored all wrong with my hooking mat but it aint 50mm thick, 25 yes.

Perhaps if the tackle companies had fish welfare at the top of their list (instead of corporate profit) the club wouldn't even have to consider making such rules, Infact the responsibility lies with the tackle companies, not the clubs !!!!.

Also not sure how the club are goner inforce this, ie issue baliffs with calibrated verniers (Yes Im joking !!!).

The funny is thou. who decides these measurements are actually best for fish welfare?.

It was a mistake to come up with dimensions, something like 'appropriate' and leave it down to the bailiff's descretion would have done.

I'm glad that common sense has prevailed, I did have concerns about that price and availability of 50mm mats. As for the legitimacy of changing a democraticaly made rule at the agm............
